Ok Rachel...after much ado here it is. (you realize how much effort this took me?! :) ) I'm (re)reading Henri Nouwen's book: Reaching Out: the Three Movements of the Spiritual Life. (I'm also reading Little house on the Prarie, but it's a little elementary...)

This is near the beginning of the Third Movement on Reaching out to God and it's discussing the role of prayer in the spiritual life...

"Still, a spiritual life without prayer is like the gospel without Christ. Instead of proving or defending anything, it might be worthwhile to simply bring all the doubtful and anxious questions together in this one question: "If prayer, understood as an intimate relationship with God, is indeed the basis of all relationships--to ourselves as well as to others--how then can we learn to pray and really experience prayer as the axis of our existence?" By focusing on this question, it becomes possible to explore the importance of prayer in our own lives and in the lives of those we have met through personal encounters or through stories and books."

Maybe I should have quoted about Almonzo's cows: Bess and Beauty? :)

Banjo Night

These are some pics from the week we were in E. Washington over the Christmas break. On a nice relaxing evening, the boys broke out the music. Mary picked up the camera (thank you!) and we had a wonderful time. I'm sure we can all agree that we would love to see more shindigs like this in the future! Dad, our kids want banjo!! :)

Itty Bitty Camera

I got a mini camera for Christmas from my boss, Sandy. You may have seen it when I was home. When I say mini, I mean, fits on a key chain. I finally figured out how to make it work today (you can see that I'm working on decompressing from my very stressful last few weeks). It's a silly little thing but here is my self portrait...this is me today! (How's that for current?!)



Ok, I failed. SCRATCH THAT!! I figured it out!!! :) I just can't show you the edited pic. Fun eh? I don't think I can post them because it save the pics in really weird formats. I may email you some today. Right now, I'm off to Pilates.

Better late than never

Ok, ok. So I'm delinquent. Sorry about that. The program I've been working on for over 2 months was launched last week and I was in Portland and Sacramento for the training. This weekend was supposed to be relaxing after all that hubub, and it was. But I didn't take any pictures. Still, here are some from our somewhat recent trip home a couple of weeks ago and from Carkeek Park last weekend.

You might also notice that I improved our blog by adding a Quote of the week (which should encourage me to stay current) and links to Dave's Myspace (which finally has one of his songs on it!) and of course, my lame excuse for a website. Enjoy!
