Pictures are worth a thousand words...

Obviously, ya'll like my pictures more than my writing. :) Well, I'll do my best to feed the beast. Here are some pics I took at Dad's track meet last weekend at the Lake Washington Invite in Kirkland. They're not great, but then again not too bad for only having my wide angle lens (16mm-35mm) I'm definitely not inclined toward the sports photography. :) Below, you'll see a good jump for Mo (Melissa Mauro). I think it was at 5'2" or so...

Finally, the rest of the pictures!

My First Real Photoshoot...

Well, it finally happened. I had my first unsolicited photoshoot! Perfect strangers emailed me up to see about photographing their 19 month old daughter. I was delighted and we had a great time on Saturday. I haven't given them thier pics yet, so I don't know their response, but here are a few of my favorites (which probably won't be posted on my website unless I get permission).

UPDATE 1/22/09:
I did get permission to use these photos for my website (which will be going live in the next couple weeks!) I also figured out how they found me. A band that I photographed at Think Swing 2007 posted some of my pics on their myspace (without my permission originally...I have since given them my full blessing!). She's a friend and fan and liked my pics. We had a great time and you'll see on the site when I'm done that I've reworked a couple of these pictures for the better. Hopefully I'll evenutally get more business as a result.

Toronto, Canada

Long time no write! Sorry for such a long, unplanned sabatical. Last week I had the pleasure of visiting beautiful Toronto, Canada. It's the best of old and new mixed together. I put miles on my shoes, made new friends and visited the Toronto Blue Jays stadium for free! Did I mention I was there for work? :)

If you get the opportunity to visit T.C. anytime in the near future, know this...the Canadian side of Niagra Falls is more impressive than the U.S. side (highly recommend a visit there!), the Canadians love their hot dogs, and you probably won't get to see the Blue Jays stadium for free.

How'd I do it? Well, I followed the crowds and the hot dog stands (there was literally a hot dog cart every 50-100 yards! No kidding.) to the stadium and mostly people watched. I would have bought a cheap ticket, but I only had about an hour before I had to be back at the hotel to check out and catch a cab to the airport. So I wandered around for a bit and came across a red carpet and a chef with a big hat. I hadn't eaten yet (and was starving!) so I looked at the menu which of course didn't have prices. The chef was very personable and insisted on showing me the buffet which he was certian I couldn't turn down. Turns out the place was fancy schmancy, the food delectable and incredibly expensive. If I wanted to eat there and didn't have a ticket yet, a gentleman would come by in a bit and sell me one for $16 (the cheaps are $9). I thanked him and asked if he would pay $50 for 50minutes, for that's all I had. He of course, would not and understood my need to get to the airport. Still, he gave me a little of the history of the stadium and let me stand there for the U.S. and Canadian national anthems. It was a phenomenal view...long, un-obscured tables looking down over the outfield. Did you know that that stadium was the first to have a mechanical roof?

I would have taken pictures, but I didn't bring my camera(!). You'll just have to take my word for it. :)

Another post to come as well as some pictures I've recently (in the last month) shot.

Tagged...

Ok Rachel...after much ado here it is. (you realize how much effort this took me?! :) ) I'm (re)reading Henri Nouwen's book: Reaching Out: the Three Movements of the Spiritual Life. (I'm also reading Little house on the Prarie, but it's a little elementary...)

This is near the beginning of the Third Movement on Reaching out to God and it's discussing the role of prayer in the spiritual life...

"Still, a spiritual life without prayer is like the gospel without Christ. Instead of proving or defending anything, it might be worthwhile to simply bring all the doubtful and anxious questions together in this one question: "If prayer, understood as an intimate relationship with God, is indeed the basis of all relationships--to ourselves as well as to others--how then can we learn to pray and really experience prayer as the axis of our existence?" By focusing on this question, it becomes possible to explore the importance of prayer in our own lives and in the lives of those we have met through personal encounters or through stories and books."

Maybe I should have quoted about Almonzo's cows: Bess and Beauty? :)

Banjo Night

These are some pics from the week we were in E. Washington over the Christmas break. On a nice relaxing evening, the boys broke out the music. Mary picked up the camera (thank you!) and we had a wonderful time. I'm sure we can all agree that we would love to see more shindigs like this in the future! Dad, our kids want banjo!! :)

Itty Bitty Camera

I got a mini camera for Christmas from my boss, Sandy. You may have seen it when I was home. When I say mini, I mean, fits on a key chain. I finally figured out how to make it work today (you can see that I'm working on decompressing from my very stressful last few weeks). It's a silly little thing but here is my self portrait...this is me today! (How's that for current?!)

Ok, I failed. SCRATCH THAT!! I figured it out!!! :) I just can't show you the edited pic. Fun eh? I don't think I can post them because it save the pics in really weird formats. I may email you some today. Right now, I'm off to Pilates.

love to all!

Better late than never

Ok, ok. So I'm delinquent. Sorry about that. The program I've been working on for over 2 months was launched last week and I was in Portland and Sacramento for the training. This weekend was supposed to be relaxing after all that hubub, and it was. But I didn't take any pictures. Still, here are some from our somewhat recent trip home a couple of weeks ago and from Carkeek Park last weekend.

You might also notice that I improved our blog by adding a Quote of the week (which should encourage me to stay current) and links to Dave's Myspace (which finally has one of his songs on it!) and of course, my lame excuse for a website. Enjoy!
